York Region's First Mental Health Community Care Hub

The York Region Mental Health Community Care Hub Project is leading the development of a 24/7 resource for people experiencing a mental health or addictions crisis. Promoting wellness and inspiring hope and resilience, CMHA and its partners will support recovery at the Hub with the highest levels of compassion and specialist care. The Hub will be located in Newmarket once government funding is approved.

The first of its kind in the region, this facility will offer care to children, adults, and their families, aged 12 and older, who are facing a mental health or addictions crisis and need immediate support. With a range of health care professionals from nurses, psychiatrists, social workers and peer support specialists, this innovative facility will provide much needed access to care. The centre will offer 24/7 access to treatment, including 20 short-stay beds (for ages 16+). Providing an alternative option to hospital emergency departments, individuals will be able to access the Hub by being referred by a physician, hospital, or community partner, transferred by police or paramedics, or just by walking in.

CMHA is the Lead Agency for the Hub Project collaborating with health and social services providers including Ministry of Health, The Region of York, York Region Paramedic Services, York Regional Police, and the three York Region Hospitals, Southlake Health Centre, Mackenzie Health, and Oak Valley Health, along with other local community mental health agencies.

Together, our vision is to create a leading-edge mental health and community care facility that will welcome individuals and families from across York Region.

“The York Region Mental Health Community Care Hub will make a significant difference for our community in York Region by targeting specific gaps in mental health and addictions services,” said Christine Elliott, Former Deputy Premier and Minister of Health for Ontario and MPP for Newmarket-Aurora. “Supporting innovative projects like this is part of the government’s plan to build a comprehensive and connected mental health and addictions system that offers Ontarians better access to high quality care, when and where they need it.”
