The Centre will offer 24/7 access to treatment for ages 12+, including 20 short-stay beds (for ages 16+). Providing an alternative option to hospital emergency departments, individuals will be able to access the Centre by being referred by a physician, hospital, or community partner, transferred by police or paramedics, or just by walking in.
CMHA is the Lead Agency for the York Region Mental Health Community Care Centre collaborating with health and social services providers including Ministry of Health, The Region of York, York Region Paramedic Services, York Regional Police, and the three York Region Hospitals, Southlake Health Centre, Mackenzie Health, and Oak Valley Health, along with other local community mental health agencies.
"The York Region Mental Health Community Care Centre will address specific, critical gaps in our healthcare system for individuals who need immediate, voluntary and short-stay mental health support and better connections and navigation to ongoing care. While one provider can't solve everyone's needs, this hub, a true collaboration, is a critical addition to building a more comprehensive and connected mental health system. Together, we will work towards our vision to help ensure someone's first mental health crisis is their last." - Rebecca Shields CEO, Canadian Mental Health Association York Region South Simcoe
