Talking To Your Teens About Their Mental Health

Sixteen year old Samira struggled with depression and an eating disorder, and spent years suffering in silence. No one knew it, but Samira was dangerously close to joining the growing number of teens who see suicide as the only escape from their depression.

She was struggling – struggling hard on the inside to stay safe, and struggling harder on the outside to appear “okay.”

I visited MOBYSS one day and shared that I was having suicidal thoughts and didn’t know where to turn. There is actually a youth mental health worker on the bus – someone I could speak to who really listened and understood. Together, we came up with a safety plan for when these thoughts enter my mind. She helped me find hope and motivation to continue on with life. Thank you.

MOBYSS – Ontario’s first and only mobile (and now also virtual) mental health clinic – has provided immediate help and hope to teenagers and young adults in distress since 2015.

But we can’t do it alone. They can’t do it alone. We need you!

When you make a gift, you give a young person like Samira the skills to tackle their physical and mental health challenges, overcome addiction, and work through food security, or housing stability.

This year alone, more than 2,000 young people like Samira connected with our MOBYSS team to help them through a mental health crisis.

This holiday season, your gift of $25, $50, $100, $250 or more will provide compassionate, effective and immediate care and make sure all the Samiras in our community have a somewhere to turn when they need it most.

P.S. If you know someone between the ages of 12 and 25 who needs our help, please go to www.mobyss.ca.
