There are many good and not-so-good ways to deal with conflict which people absorb early in life through their family of origin. People with experience of mental distress may have more traumatic memories than others of conflict and the situations that lead to it; their experience of past and present conflict may have left them feeling overwhelmed and frightened. Whatever people’s relationship with conflict, we can all improve on the way we deal with it. When people learn how to understand and engage constructively in conflict it improves their lives and strengthen their relationships.
