As the new school year begins, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the changes—new routines, academic demands, and shifting social dynamics. During times of transition like this, caring for our mental health can easily fall off our radar. However, even the smallest actions can make a big difference to our overall well-being.
We asked one of our knowledgeable BounceBack Coaches to share their tips to help you care for your mental health during this season. Here’s what they said:
Prioritize Sleep
Aim for 8-10 hours of sleep each night. Good sleep helps with focus, mood and overall well-being! Here are a few tips for building a mentally healthy nighttime routine.
Stay Organized
Use a planner or digital tools to manage assignments, deadlines and activities. This can reduce stress, provide mental clarity and help you stay on top of your schoolwork.
Stay Active
Exercise regularly, whether it’s a sport, yoga, or even a daily walk. Physical activity boosts mood and energy levels! If you’re looking for free, online workouts, check out the YMCA’s at-home exercise videos here.
Limit Screen Time
Take breaks from screens to avoid burnout. Consider setting specific times for social media to prevent it from becoming overwhelming. If you have an iPhone, here’s how you can set up screen time right now.
Be Kind to Yourself
Practice self-compassion. It’s okay to make mistakes and have days of feeling ‘off.’ Treat yourself with the same kindness you would show a friend!
When it all gets to be too much, it’s okay to ask for help. We’re here for you when you need us.
