Client Family Advisors

Client Family Advisors

We are always looking for new members!

Clients and family members play an essential role in shaping the quality and experience of care at CMHA York Region and South Simcoe (CMHA-YRSS). We are looking for people who want to partner with us to strengthen our programs, services, and client experience.

If you have received services from CMHA-YRSS in the past three years, either for yourself or for a loved one, and want to help improve how we deliver care, we invite you to consider becoming a Client and Family Advisor.

About the Role

Client and Family Advisors are valued partners who bring their lived experience, insights, and perspectives to our quality improvement, safety, and service-design work. Advisors collaborate with staff on a range of activities, including:

  • Providing feedback on new or updated programs, policies, and procedures
  • Participating in discussions about client experience and service design
  • Sharing insights through surveys, focus groups, and project-based consultations
  • Helping us understand what matters most to clients and families
  • Advisors contribute in ways that match their interests and comfort level. Training and support are provided.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome clients and family members of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities. To participate effectively in this role, advisors should:

  • Be comfortable sharing perspectives in a group setting
  • Be able to attend approximately 8–10 meetings per year (1.5 hours per meeting)

No special education or professional experience is required. Your lived experience is your expertise.

What You Gain by Participating

As a Client and Family Advisor, you will:

  • Influence improvements in care, safety, and service delivery
  • Ensure client and family voices are reflected in decisions
  • Strengthen advocacy and collaboration skills
  • Contribute to a more responsive and client-centred mental health system

How to Join

  1. Submit an Expression of Interest Form
  2. Participate in a conversation with the Manager of Quality, Risk & Patient Safety
