Volunteer

CMHA York Region and South Simcoe has been built upon a tradition of volunteering. We believe volunteers are a vital resource who strengthen our community and help to promote change and development.

The participation of volunteers at CMHA York Region and South Simcoe enriches and enhances our programs and activities.

We are committed to ensuring effective volunteer involvement in appropriate programs and activities fostered in a safe and supportive environment. In turn, we expect that volunteers will act responsibly and be accountable to program expectations and to our organization. Volunteer involvement is based on integrity, respectful and meaningful relationships, and are mutually beneficial to the volunteer and our organization.

Together, staff and volunteers contribute their efforts toward the achievement of Branch vision, mission and values.

Leadership
Our board members, committee chairs, and committee members are volunteers and are some of our most devoted volunteers who offer us their personal and professional experience to help us grow and improve. The schedule of various boards and committees varies but typically requires a monthly commitment to attend in person/virtual meetings.

Events
We have many events throughout the year and we can always use volunteers to help, especially at our annual #MentalHealthinMotion event each June. Special event volunteers may be asked to take part in event set up and tear down, advocacy and awareness raising campaigns, and more. Open to anyone 16+. Events can occur anywhere in York and South Simcoe and may occur during the day, evenings or weekends.

I am currently enrolled in the social service worker accelerated program at Seneca College and am passionate about pursuing a career in the mental health and addictions field. Volunteering at CMHA is helping me gain first-hand experience. I really admire CMHA as an organization and am really excited and happy to be part of the organization and look forward to continuing to grow with CMHA.
