Position Title: Program Volunteer – Employment
Reports To: Employment Team
Location: Aurora – Fridays 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Purpose: To assist in the Employment Program

MISSION STATEMENT OF AGENCY
As a leader and champion for mental health, CMHA facilitates access to the resources people require to maintain and improve mental health and community integration, build resilience and support recovery from mental illness.

PURPOSE
A peer-led drop-in program that is open every Monday and Friday from 3:30pm to 6:30pm and is facilitated by Volunteers. It s a time to meet people and socialize. Activities are chosen by volunteers and participants together and include games, discussion topics and peer support as well as a group dinner once a month.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • To adhere to CMHA s written volunteer policies and procedures
  • Maintains confidentiality with respect to information about clients, family members and others
  • Inform supervisor of issues that might interfere with volunteer placement or
    performance of volunteer role
  • Inform supervisor of issues that might interfere with delivery of services. Bring
    questions to supervisor as they arise
  • Meet and greet clients/individuals seeking information
  • Keep track of names of people in attendance of Career Café
  • Assist clients with computer use and aid in photocopying
  • Update bulletin board with current events, job postings, resources, and
    information
  • Re-stock forms, information sheets, and pamphlets
  • Assist Employment Team with support of workshops
  • Attend program’s team meeting as required
  • Keep area neat and tidy
  • Other duties as assigned by the employment team

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to use office equipment (photocopier and computer)
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Adaptable to changing environments
  • Ability to work with limited supervision following orientation
  • Demonstrates excellent attendance record
  • Knowledge of employment support services is an asset
  • Be aware of health and safety procedures

COMMITMENT

  • Complete general orientation and on-the-job training, which are to be arranged with supervisor/Employment Team
  • Complete Monthly Activity Forms, which identify volunteer hours, and submit to the supervisor for signature at the end of each month
  • Contact supervisor regarding any changes to your schedule
  • Provide support during the hours of operation of the Career Café on Fridays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
  • Demonstrate a minimum commitment of 6 months
