MISSION STATEMENT OF AGENCY As a nation-wide, voluntary organization, the Canadian Mental Health Association promotes the mental health of all and supports the resilience and recovery of people experiencing mental illness.


PURPOSE To assist in the Youth programming at Community Connections Aurora


PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The program is a Peer-led drop-in program that is open every Wednesday from 4:00pm to 6:30pm, and it is facilitated by staff and a volunteer. It is a time for youth to meet and socialize. Activities are chosen by facilitators and participants together and include structured/unstructured discussion topics, games, cooking, music and peer support.



  • To adhere to CMHA’s written volunteer policies and procedures
  • Maintains confidentiality with respect to information about clients, family members and others
  • Make people feel welcome and comfortable
  • Greet members as they enter program
  • Provide orientation to new members
  • Ensure members sign in
  • Transfer attendance onto spreadsheet
  • Aid with some administrative tasks such as photocopying
  • Help staff keep program space neat and tidy
  • Assist staff with developing, supporting, and/or delivering activities as per unique skills and experience
  • Contribute to the development of the agency/program
  • Inform supervisor immediately of concerns regarding the welfare of clients
  • Inform supervisor of issues that might interfere with the running of the program.
  • Inform supervisor of issues that might interfere with volunteer placement or performance of volunteer role
  • Be aware of health and safety procedures
  • Bring questions to staff as they arise

  • Ability to work with limited supervision following orientation

  • Attend for 2.5 hours every Wednesday from 4:00pm – 6:30pm
  • Completion of general orientation and on-the-job training; to be arranged with Supervisor
  • Attend relevant meetings as needed (including site meetings, staff supervision, etc.)
  • Attend volunteer schedule as agreed with staff supervisor
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Monthly Activity Forms identifying volunteer hours will be completed and submitted to the supervisor for signature at the end of each month
  • A minimum 6 month commitment
