15 Nov Mental Health Ambassador & Olympian, Clara Hughes, Drops by CMHA Booth
Six-time Olympian and courageous mental health ambassador, Clara Hughes, dropped by the CMHA York South Simcoe Psychiatric recruitment booth recently at the Canadian Psychiatric Association Conference.
Hughes is synonymous with the annual Bell Let’s Talk mental health awareness campaign, which she championed with “Clara’s Big Ride for Bell Let’s Talk”. An Olympic cyclist and speed skater, Hughes took her cycling sport to the open road in 2014 riding coast to coast over 12,000 km, visiting communities and schools, in an effort to breakdown stigmas associated with mental health.
In 2016 the Bell Let’s Talk campaign raised over $6 million dollars to fund projects which support mental health initiatives, reducing barriers and eradicating stigma.
