Meet Katerina

Volunteer, Family Caregiver Education and Family Support Group

Why Katerina chose to volunteer at CMHA

I chose to volunteer at CMHA because I wanted to work with a successful, established nonprofit community organization that championed mental health and aided vulnerable communities. I really enjoy having the opportunity to run groups where we can make a positive impact on people’s lives. I would like to be able to pursue a career in the field of mental health and this is a really great way for me to gain experience and learn from other incredible people at CMHA.

Katerina, Volunteer

Katerina’s favourite moment at CMA

I have really enjoyed running the English Family Support Group monthly sessions. Each month, my fellow volunteers and I get to research various topics relating to mental health, from sleep hygiene to coping mechanisms and communication skills. I am grateful for the opportunity to expand my knowledge and present useful tips to clients. In these sessions, we get to listen to the clients’ personal experiences and struggles which may be my favourite part because it allows us all to connect on a deep level. As a person who has had her personal struggles with mental health, I find that it is extremely powerful when we share and relate to each others stories.

Katerina’s advice for others

I wish everybody knew that they are valued and appreciated. CMHA is full of staff and volunteers that pour their heart and soul into creating safe spaces and helpful resources for anyone in need. No matter what they are struggling with, there is someone who cares and wants to help.

I would like to emphasize how honoured I am to be a part of CMHA as we continue to grow and adapt to a new world. I want to continue to grow professionally and personally so I can learn more and make an even greater impact on people’s lives.
