Happy Pride everyone!
To me, Pride Month is about coming together to show our support for all members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, celebrate how far we have come and to reflect on the work that still needs to be done going forward.
Pride means a lot to me, as I have personally been out for a long time. I came out in 1992, but I knew well before then—let’s just say back in the 80’s it was a different world. I am so grateful for all the progress that has been made to date, so that my family, my partner and I can live with pride.
I also want to acknowledge that we still have a long way to go and that I am so grateful for the 2SLGBTQ+ Affinity Group here at CMHA York Region and South Simcoe, for the advocacy, training and support they provide to help ensure that everyone feels included and accepted just as they are.
This year, like many years in the past, I am going to be celebrating with my family. I hope that you are able to celebrate with those that matter to you and that we can come together to ensure that everyone feels welcomed and included, not only on Pride Month, but all year long.
Have a great and Happy Pride!
