Rapid Access Psychiatry

The Rapid Access Mood & Anxiety Program (RAP) is a free program that provides support to referring primary care providers through consultation with our psychiatric team. Clients with low mood and anxiety are seen for an initial individual psychiatric assessment, and if indicated, group Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is provided.

The key elements of the program include:

1. Individual psychiatric assessment: a comprehensive assessment within 6 weeks of referral. After the assessment, an experienced Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will provide a provide a report with diagnostic information and treatment recommendations to you and your primary care doctor.

2. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): An 8-week group focusing on:

  • Identifying and understanding your feelings
  • Identifying and changing problematic thoughts
  • Changing emotion driven behaviours

CBT is proven to be the most effective form of psychotherapy in treating low mood and anxiety. Participating in CBT and actively engaging in a treatment plan with your physician offers the best results in reducing symptoms and improving quality of life.

Please consider our eligibility criteria:

1. Adults age 16+ who are capable of completing questionnaires and engaging in the program.

2. Mild to moderate depression and/or anxiety is the primary presenting issue.
