Choices

Providing a safe space for youth to learn refusal skills, positive coping strategies and practice new skills in a non-judgemental environment.

The Choices Program provides a safe and encouraging environment for youth between the age of 12 and 17 to learn skills that will help them make more positive choices in their lives, like how to make informed and relevant decisions. Having positive role models involved in this program is key, which is why it is run with program coordinators alongside volunteer coaches who can provide this support.

The Choices program:

  • Staff and volunteers use behaviour rehearsals, guest speakers, video clips, and interactive activities to illustrate weekly topics
  • Provides a safe space for youth to learn refusal skills, positive coping strategies and practice new skills in a non-judgemental environment

Choices is a 2 hour group that meets for over 10 weeks.

Weekly topics may include:

  • Communication
  • Decision Making
  • Goal Setting
  • Drugs and Alcohol
  • Coping Strategies/Marijuana
  • Taking Risks/Social Media

Referrals are welcome from parents, schools, local social service agencies, police, courts, and the youth themselves.
