Tips to Combat Holiday Stress

The holiday season is a time of celebration and joy, but it can also be extremely stressful, which is why it is crucial to prioritize our well-being during this time! In this blog, our amazing Clinical Therapy Program offers four tips to combat stress during the holidays:

Practice self-care

While the holidays are a time for giving, it’s also important to take care of ourselves. For example, treat yourself to a warm beverage/snack, curl up with a good book, spend quality time with friends, or do activities that bring you relaxation, comfort and joy.

Have realistic expectations

We often strive for perfection around the holidays by trying to have the perfect gifts, food and decorations. We encourage you to accept that there is no such thing as perfection and sometimes our best-laid plans do not work out. Setting realistic expectations can allow you to take a step back to appreciate everything happening around you.

Proper rest

The holidays can be hectic and maintaining a consistent sleep schedule can help keep you feeling your best, at ease and help improve your overall mood. We recommend going to bed at the same time each night, avoiding naps throughout the day, limiting caffeine intake and avoiding late-night screen time.

Explore new traditions

Whether you have pre-existing hobbies or traditions or are looking to try something new, there are lots of options! You can make a gingerbread house, volunteer, visit a winter festival, join an activity or attend a holiday light show. Whatever the choice may be, it’s a great way to create lasting memories and feel a sense of belonging.

We hope these tips bring you comfort and ease during the holiday season. Remember, it’s okay to take a breath, prioritize your self-care, and savour the moments that truly matter most to you during this time.
