MOBYSS Frequently Asked Questions

MOBYSS is Ontario’s first mobile walk-in clinic for youth that provides primary care and mental health care to individuals between the ages of 12 and 25. Our services are completely free of charge, anonymous, and do not require a health card. The MOBYSS team is comprised of a Nurse Practitioner, Youth Mental Health Worker, and Peer Support Specialist.

Your child is doing their best to look after their mental health, physical health, or both. The MOBYSS team prioritizes confidentiality, and while we are unable to tell you specific information related to your child’s health, please know that we are doing our best to support your child in this time of need.

The best way to find out about the kind of help your child is receiving is by asking them. While this is a scary and concerning time for you, it is equally scary and concerning for your child. When your child is ready, they may decide to share this health information with you. In the meantime, the best thing you can do is support your child in their efforts to take care of their mental and/or physical health.

All services offered by MOBYSS are voluntary and depend on the total engagement of the youth. Ideally it is best if your child is ready and open to receive services, however if they are still uncertain, we welcome you and/or your child to drop by the bus to see the space or call/text us at and learn more about the program.

Your child’s health information is protected under the Ontario Personal Health Information Protection Act (2004). This means that any information related to the services they receive on MOBYSS that relates to their physical and mental health must be kept in strict confidence between the practitioner and the youth. By law, MOBYSS staff and employees are unable to release any information related to your child’s file unless your child’s safety is at risk.

MOBYSS is a program designed for youth, but we understand that parents deserve support too. If parents voice that they would like support, the MOBYSS team will provide referrals to other programs that can assist with this.

MOBYSS offers support around mental and physical health, and while we are not a crisis program, you can contact MOBYSS during business hours to learn more about immediate crisis supports in the community. MOBYSS staff are trained and experienced in supporting clients around a myriad of mental and physical health concerns and also have specialized training in suicide intervention, but if your child is in immediate danger please call 9-1-1.

If your child is in immediate danger to themselves or others, please phone 9-1-1. If your child does not meet these qualifications but would still like support, you can contact MOBYSS at 289-879-2376 to learn more about community resources that might be helpful in supporting your child. Some of these resources include:

  • Toronto Distress Centres | Anonymous & confidential telephone counselling | 416-408-4357
  • 310 Cope | Telephone counselling & crisis intervention | 310-2673 (COPE) (add TEL LINK)
  • Kids Help Phone | Anonymous & confidential counselling | 1-800-668-6868
  • ONTX | Confidential & anonymous counselling through text message (2pm to 2am) | text 741741

We primarily provide service to youth aged 12 to 25 years, however if you are outside of this age range, we would be happy to assist you in finding resources and supports that best fit your needs. There are no eligibility requirements to access MOBYSS, but we have the right to refuse care should staff safety be at risk.

While MOBYSS is a mobile service, we are unable to make stops outside of our scheduled rotation. If your child would like to book an appointment to meet one of our practitioners at a scheduled location, please call or text (289) 879-2376.

The MOBYSS unit is usually staffed with three staff at all times. The team has various safety measures in place to ensure that all staff and clients on board are safe at all times. Staff have also received training in community safety. In addition, MOBYSS has built relationships with all of our community partners so we have an emergency contact at each site we visit.

If your child is comfortable with your attendance and gives consent, you are more than welcome to attend the session with them. However, if your child would prefer to attend the session independently, we strongly encourage you to support your child in feeling empowered towards making this decision. Services are best provided when the practitioner and youth are able to build rapport and hold a confidential relationship.

The best thing you can do as a parent is to support your child in looking after their mental health so they may feel empowered. Your child will tell you as much or as little about their mental/physical experience as they would like. Validating their experience and ensuring not to pressure them for information can help your child immensely. Let your child know that they can talk to you about their thoughts and feelings. Be there for them and listen to what they have to say, even if they don’t agree or understand. What they are going through is very real to them and it is important for them to know they are not alone.

Under the Ontario Personal Health Information Protection Act (2004), your child is empowered with the legal right to make all final decisions regarding their mental and physical health. The best thing you can do as a parent is offer your guidance and support while respecting the decisions your child makes in regards to their health.

MOBYSS has a working relationship with the York Region District School Board and the Simcoe County District School Board. Our team ensures to build and maintain relationships with principals, guidance counsellors, and other staff within each of our partnering schools.

Absolutely! Your child is more than welcome to utilize and access MOBYSS services at any of our sites. Please refer to mobyss.ca for our schedule location.
